DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\n\nAbout Þorrablót\nÞorrablót is an Icelandic midwinter festival rooted in Norse pagan tradition. Historically\, it marked survival through the harshest part of winter with traditional foods and communal feasting. Today\, it’s a celebration of heritage\, resilience\, and togetherness. \nTickets\nChildren under 10 are free so long as their grown up is with them. \nPaypal does allow for credit-card purchases without logging in. \n  \nOther ways to buy tickets\nWe understand that PayPal isn’t for everyone! We’re working on a new payment and ticketing system to make things easier\, but as an all-volunteer team\, it’s not quite ready yet. SUMMARY:2025 Þorrablót at Swedish Museum
DESCRIPTION:– SOLD OUT –  \n  \nWe’re excited to welcome a new musical entertainer to þorrablót\, Þorvarður Ólafsson\, or like he prefers to be called\, Varði. Varði is from Keflavík\, Iceland’s ‘Beatles Town’ because of the many talented musicians from there. He’s an experienced entertainer who knows all the good ole Icelandic songs for sing a long and to dance to. We’ve yet to confirm a caterer but promise all the Icelandic staples will be served\, thanks to selfless members of our association who’ve offered to be carriers of hangikjöt\, pickled rams’ testicles\, sheared sheep heads\, dried haddock\, blood pudding\, liver pudding\, rye and flat bread\, and other delicacies you’ve been craving. \nWe’ll start the blót at 6 p.m. with a welcome drink\, gravlax\, double smoked leg of lamb\, Brennivin\, and rotten shark followed by a buffet dinner. For dessert\, we’ll enjoy a traditional ‘kaffihlaðborð’ with pönnukökur\, kleinur\, marengstertur and other goodies. We’ll treat you to the best water in the world\, Icelandic Glacial BUT for other drinks\, this is a BYOB event. \nRemember to bring cash for raffle tickets.  We outdid ourselves last year with spectacular prizes and plan to do even better this time. \nThe deadline to purchase tickets is January 31. WE’LL NOT SELL TICKETS OR ACCEPT PAYMENT AT THE DOOR. We’ve sold out for the past several Þorrablót so secure tickets for you and your friends asap. \nÞorrablót is a traditional Icelandic midwinter festival that dates back to the Viking Age. It is celebrated during the month of Þorri\, which typically falls between late January and mid-February. The festival is a time to honor the Icelandic gods and celebrate the return of longer days as winter begins to wane. Participants enjoy a feast featuring traditional foods\, including fermented shark\, pickled herring\, and various meats\, while engaging in storytelling\, singing\, and other cultural activities that reflect the rich history and customs of Iceland. \n– SOLD OUT –  \n(Member prices discounted. SUMMARY:The 18th Greater Chicago Icelandic Open at Hilldale GC\, Sunday September 15th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Sold Out! \n  \nTGCI Open is a 9-hole tournament played in teams of two players.  The format is Texas Scramble where each player hits a drive\, and the team picks the one they want to use.  Both players hit their next shot from that location and then pick the better of the two shots and so on until the ball is holed.  To speed up the game and finish in about 2.5 hours\, teams who reach a double par can pick up the ball.  This format is great fun and so is the socializing at the awards ceremony after the round where we’ll enjoy food and drinks. For $45 you’ll get so much more than 9 holes with a cart.  \nThese are the prizes : \n\nIcelandair: A $500 gift certificate (no travel restrictions)\, for ‘Hole in One’ on hole number 8.  If no one hits a hole in one\, the player closest to the pin wins the prize.\nHyatt Centric Mag Mile downtown Chicago: Two one night’s stay with breakfast.\nPorter Pipes (Binna and Bud Porter):  Four tickets to Cubs game with parking.\nBlue Lagoon Iceland: Two Comfort Admission to Blue Lagoon for two people each.\nFlyover Iceland or Flyover Chicago at Navy Pier: Two tickets.\nIcelandicGlacial:  Water for all players.\n1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place teams win a medal and the GCIO champions get the “traveling” trophy.  All players get a sleeve of The Greater Chicago Icelandic Open signature golf balls\n\nThe store is open and remember\, we’ve sold out before so secure your spot and pay on the webpage or mail a check.
