Sept. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022. Full time, 5 days a week and a variable weekend day. Must be willing to work occasional evenings. Reports to Executive Director of the Swedish American Museum.
POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Nordic House Manager interacts with the Nordic stakeholders. Manages the operations at Nordic House and supervises the associates, interns and volunteers with various assignments. The Nordic House Manager and Associate represents the Nordic community, creates a positive experience for visitors and volunteers alike, builds a reputation for excellence for the Swedish American Museum and Nordic Consulates.
DUTIES
Manager
Develop strategy for the retail operations and maximize sales. Ensure that both traditional favorites and fresh additions to inventory are always on hand. Introduce products that will be attractive to visitors and shoppers and that represent the Nordic countries. Invite and entice visitors with window and merchandise displays. Manage inventory storage areas efficiently and collaborate with the Museum Store Manager in Andersonville and the Nordic stakeholders. Manage all retail record keeping, and prepare weekly reports and bank deposits of cash proceeds.
Associate
Support the Manager with the daily activities.
General
Serve as the primary contact for visitors to the Nordic House. Be representatives for all Nordic Countries and the Museum and become familiar with the history of the Nordic community. Assist customers with their merchandise selections. Manage phone and website inquiries. Develop schedules and update window displays. Update store information with featured sale items. Interact with other members of the Nordic House staff to share information and to collaborate to achieve the strategic objectives. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university or comparable work experience
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Manager
Minimum of 1-3 years related experience in retail management. Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Previous experience in not-for-profit a plus.
Associate
Previous retail experience.
